Our Vision and Values

Our Vision and Values.

Throughout 2008, Mental Health Matters' Board of Trustees carried out a review of our vision and values to reaffirm our commitment to the people who use our services, their carers and families.
Since the conception of Mental Health Matters in 1984, the organisation has grown into a national voice for individuals with mental health needs, their carers and families. Throughout this time, the original statement of intent, values and principles has evolved and been added to. The review was designed to streamline and clarify our vision and values to make it easier for service users, members and partners to understand what Mental Health Matters aims to do.
"It has given us an excellent opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the people for whom we provide our services and continues to demonstrate our aim to strengthen the voice, rights and independence of service users, carers and family and friends," says Stephen Conway, Bishop of Ramsbury and Mental Health Matters Chair.

Our vision includes:
- Being committed to partnerships and collaboration both with other providers and users and friends and family.
- Actively promoting, valuing and respecting the dignity and empowerment of individuals to take their place in communities.
- Providing support to individuals to live meaningful and valued lives within their community.

Our values include:
- We believe in the possibility of recovery even within lifelong mental illness.
- We support health equality across the whole community.
- We will challenge any stigma towards and promote positive attitudes to mental health.
- We are a thoughtful and caring employer and service provider embracing diversity.
