Our Vision and Values
In 2008, Mental Health Matters' Trustees carried out a review of our vision and values to reaffirm our commitment to people who use our services, their carers and families.
Since Mental Health Matters' inception in 1984, the organisation has developed a national voice for people with mental health needs, their carers and families. And throughout this time, our original statement of intent and our values have evolved.
The review was designed to clarify our vision and values to make it easier for service users, members and partners to understand what Mental Health Matters aims to do.
Our Vision includes:
- Being committed to partnerships and collaboration both with other providers and with users, their friends and families.
- Promoting, valuing and respecting the dignity and empowerment of individuals to take their place in communities.
- Providing support to individuals to live meaningful and valued lives within their communities.
Our values include:
- We believe in the possibility of recovery even with lifelong mental illness.
- We support health equality across the whole community.
- We will challenge any stigma towards people with mental health needs and promote positive attitudes to mental health.
- We are a thoughtful and caring employer and service provider embracing diversity.
